Teko ‘The General’ Modise has praised fellow Mamelodi Sundowns team-mates for representing their country in the national team.

“The game was a great one. The team went out there and got a win. Praise must be given to the lads but most importantly I am proud of my teammates who are part of the team. I think that they are displaying the same effort as they do in the team,”said Modise.

Percy Tau made his debut for the national team and scored a goal. Modise says he is excited for the young man.

“Look he has done well. He is growing training by training and game by game. Now we see him in national colors and he scores a goal, amazing. Well done to him and all the young guys in the squad. Forca Bafana! (Up with Bafana).

Teko Modise has wished the national team good luck for their second leg 2018 World Cup qualifier fixture against Angola at the Moses Mabhida Stadium this evening.

“The team has done well so far and they go into the following fixture with an advantage. I wish them luck just like all South Africans and I hope that they finish the job so that they can progress.

Bafana will be heading to the match with a 3-1 score advantage after they defeated the Angolian side in their away match last week Friday. They should be able to finish what they started and move on to the next stages of the qualifying rounds.

The match will be broadcast live on Supersport 4 and is scheduled to kick-off at 19:00.

Teko Modise has wished the South African national team good luck as they prepare to take on Mauritania on Saturday.

Bafana Bafana is third in group M after their 1-1 draw against Gambia earlier in the year. Mauritania lost their first match against group leaders Cameroon and will have to face Bafana in their second match of the AFCON 2017 qualifiers at home.

“It is always interesting to see what Bafana can do in these continental competitions. Our wish is obviously to see the boys fly the flag high and do well. I for one am a supporter of my beloved country.

I hope that they do well and I must say that we need the win in order to progress. The boys will do best and bring home maximum points,” Modise says.

International football has been on our screens lately with the Copa America, AFCON and CHAN qualifiers.

The national team under the guidance of Shakes Mashaba has been doing well thus far. They have recently won the two matches against Mauritius to step closer to qualifying for the tournament. Their next fixture will be against Angola whom they also defeated a few weeks back in a friendly match.

That should indicate that Bafana can make it further in the CHAN tournament if not emerge as victors.

As for the AFCON, we drew the first match but still have a good chance of making it out of the group. Well done to all the guys who have been wearing the jersey with pride, you have made a difference.

As for local football, it is still quiet days with the pre-season stepping ever so close. Teams will be preparing for the upcoming season and it is always exciting to get back to doing what we love doing the most.

It will be another great season under the South African sun. The supporters will be excited, the players will be pumped up and the Absa Premiership will be yet again the talking point among other domestic cups. I am looking forward to the action.

Rise and shine to all on a beautiful Monday morning.

It was a great weekend full of action regarding football. Yes we are through to the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup and it feels good to say that.

Going to the weekend was a very unpredictable situation. We knew that we had to bring our A game against Platinum Stars especially because we were playing in their backyard. The team went into that match knowing what we had to do in order to clinch a win and luckily we were victorious.

Now we will wait for the quarter-final draw to determine who we are going to play against. Not that we are hoping for a specific team, but we will accept the opponents we draw and prepare accordingly. For now we are happy with the win and have put it behind us.

The FIFA international break is upon us and that will afford us resting time. The national team (Bafana Bafana) is scheduled to play against Swaziland (25 March 2015) before taking on Nigeria at the Mbombela Stadium four days later. I hope they make the nation proud and show signs of improvement as we build towards a bright future.

As for me and the team, we will be preparing for the return leg against TP Mazembe away from home. The fixture is scheduled for 4 April 2015. Then fur days later we will be back home ready to play Black Aces in the Absa Premiership.

Until then the war rages on and the Masandawana nation should believe that there is more positive football to come! Ka Bo Yellow!

Indeed it is another year that promises nothing but great opportunities. I hope that everyone had a fantastic time during the holidays.

There is so much to do and there is no better time than the present to start doing so. Regarding football, the Absa Premiership is still taking a break and has given us plenty of time to relax and recuperate.

The time for the league to resume will come and hopefully all the teams will be ready to give another entertaining round of football. Until then we will be preparing for the journey that awaits us as professionals.

The 2015 African Cup of Nations will take place shortly. Africa is expected to showcase the talent brewed from the African soil. Football is what we live for and it is exciting to know that our national team (Bafana Bafana) will be taking part in the tournament.

Shakes Mashaba and he boys have been doing well. We qualified for the AFCON and have been preparing for the group stages of the greatly anticipated competition. Recently Bafana drew against Cameroon in Gabon following a round of good results in the build-up.

The friendly match was one that indicated that we are not far from the goal of doing well in the tournament. I hope that the boys will make us proud as a nation and I wish them all the luck. Welcome to the year 2015 everyone.

Teko Modise has congratulated Shakes Mashaba on being named the Coach of the Year at the SA Sports Awards this past weekend.

Modise says the national team coach has done a great job and is really making the national team a place where players want to see themselves.

“Congratulations to coach Shakes Mashaba for being named the coach of the year. He has done a great job and continues to do so. He is turning the side into a team that all the players want to be part of,” said Modise.

He continued by adding the fact that Bafana will have a strong team when they head to the 2015 AFCON that is set to take place in Cairo, Equatorial Guinea.

“Looking ahead, the national team has a job to do in next year’s AFCON. They will certainly have a strong side that will compete with the best teams in Africa. With the way they have been playing success is imminent. I think that the confidence of the team is rising with each and every game. I say once again, the best is yet to come”, the Mamelodi Sundowns player added.

Teko Modise has congratulated Bafana Bafana for qualifying for the AFCON 2015 without a loss in the qualifying rounds.

“Congratulations to Bafana for qualifying for the 2015 AFCON. They have done an amazing job and did not lose a single game in the group stages. The team has indeed made the country proud and they deserve to be in the tournament,” Modise said.

Modise also applauded the Bafana Bafana head coach Shakes Mashaba for carrying the team to where it currently is and says now the standard of being in the national team will rise.

“Shakes Mashaba must be applauded for the good job he is doing. He has definitely created a team that can compete with any opposition. This will help the standard of our football to grow as all players will now want to play for the national team which means more competition. Congratulations again to the national team, the best is still to come,” concluded the Mamelodi Sundowns midfield maestro.

South Africa Sport Memorial

Teko Modise and his Mamelodi Sundowns players and technical team went to show their respects and support at the joint-memorial service for Senzo Meyiwa, Mbulaeni Mulaudzi and Phindile Mwelase in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The entire first team and technical staff were present throughout the proceedings of the service t the Standard Bank Arena. Modise says that the team really wanted to support the families of the diseased and show that they are also affected by the sad passing of the athletes.

“We are professionals and are affected by the sudden and unfortunate passing of these athletes. We do not choose our own fate and so it could be any of us who pass on at any given time. So we have to show our support for our fellow athletes and their families,” Modise said.

Football - Absa Premiership 2013/14 - Orlando Pirates v Supersport United - Orlando Stadium

It has been very hard to accept what has happened in the past few hours. The football industry has lost a son and a dear friend indeed.

I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Senzo Meyiwa. Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same. We have all lost a fellow soldier and a friend in the world that we live.

Senzo you will not be forgotten. You have touched the lives of many and will forever live in our memories. May your soul rest in peace Bhakaniya!
